  • CONGRATULATIONS Julie Esty & Tracey Meagher!!! They have just completed a 160 hour US DOT Emergency Medical Technician Course. They are ABSAR's newest EMT's!
  • Charles Shawcroft has accepted a position on the Board of Directors with ABSAR. Thank you Charles!
  • ABSAR has added a second response vehicle replacing Jonathan's F-150 pickup with a Land Rover Defender 110 Wagon. The Defender has been reconfigured to be used as both a rescue response vehicle and ambulance. (See the photos in the Media Gallery under "Emergency Response Vehicle")
  • Congratulations to Tracey Meagher, James Hudson, & Sven Harder for completing a US DOT First Responder course.
  • ABSAR RESCUE RIB back in service. After a lengthy refit to accomodate twin Suzuki 175 outboards, our rescue boat is back on the lift and in service. There are a few items to be finished, but she runs great! (see the media gallery for photos)
  • ABSAR begins testing "X Ray", a wave piercing monohull. Thanks to Marc Fitzgerald and Peter Harrison of SY Sojana. See the photos and video in the Media Gallery.
  • ABSAR assists Trans-Atlantic Rower Paul Ridley in his "Row for Hope". We were able to utilize Applied Sciences Associates SARMAP software to provide Paul with advice to allow him to reach Antigua. See the photos in the Media Gallery.

    ABSAR receives a call from MRCC FF stating that a 406 Mhz EPIRB is activated near Crabbs Peninsula, Antigua. A activated EPIRB was located on a vessel in storage on the hard at Crabbes Peninsula, Antigua.
    October 4, 2011 0940L
    ABSAR receives a call from the ABDF CG requesting assistance for FV Shenella, a 50' wooden fishing vessel, who is taking on water between Antigua and Barbuda. ABSAR RESCUE 1 launches to the last known position. A mechanic is picked up with a spare bilge pump to effect repairs. 1121L repairs to FV Shenella are sucessful and ABSAR RESCUE 1 returns to base.

    ABSAR receives a call from the ABDF CG with information concerning SY Galatea, a 36' catamaran with engine failure near English Harbour. ABSAR Rescue 1 launches to investigate, and finds the vessel safely at anchor in Freeman's Bay, Antigua.

    ABSAR receives a call from the ABDF CG to assist in establishing radio contact with SY Spirit of Athena. July 24, 2011 1107L the crew were rescued by a freighter south of the Dominican Republic.

    ABSAR receives a MAYDAY call from SY Deep Blue aground near Green Island, Antigua. ABSAR RESCUE 1 is lunched and finds the vessel hard aground with 2 persons aboard. 1 person is removed from the vessel while the captain awaits Tug Nicole.

    ABSAR receives a call from SY Swish requesting towing assistance. ABSAR RESCUE 1 is launched and takes the vessel in tow. 2 persons and 1 vessel rescued.

    ABSAR receives a callfrom MRCC FF concerning SY Calamares needing towing assistance 0.5 NM south of English Harbour, Antigua. ABSAR RESCUE 1 is launched and towing assistance rendered. The vessel with 2 person aboard is rescued and taken into English Harbour.

    ABSAR receives a call from MRCC FF concerning a 406 MHZ EPIRB activation on SY Zephyr with 2 adults and 3 children aboard in the vicinity of Green Island, Antigua. The vessel was found safe at anchor in Freeman's Bay, Antigua.

    ABSAR pickups a PANPAN call from a vessel in Non Such Bay, Antigua reporting a meteor flare sighted north of the bay. ABSAR D110 investigates from land scanning the area with spotlights. Meanwhile multiple reports are made concerning similar events around Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, and Guadeloupe.

    ABSAR receives a call from the ABDF CG requesting we respond to a medical emergency with a hand injury aboard SY Aristate. SY Aristate makes their own way into St. John's Harbour before ABSAR Rescue 1 arrives on scene.

    ABSAR receives a call from MY Yalla with a medical emergency aboard. They are 20 nm off Antigua and are requesting assistance to meet them when they are closer to Antigua. ABSAR Rescue 1 meets the vessel 5 nm off the SW coast of Antigua and stands by for assistance. The Captain reports the Patient is stable.

    ABSAR receives a call concerning a kite board surfer experiencing difficulties in Willoughby Bay. ABSAR Rescue 1 responds to the area and finds the surfer in no distress and making his own way ashore.
    January 27, 2011 1306L
    ABSAR receives a call to assist a diver medical emergency 15 miles south of Antigua. ABSAR RESCUE 1 responds to the location and meets the vessel enroute. The injured diver is transfered to ABSAR RESCUE 1 and placed on 100% oxygen. MRCC FF sends a rescue helicopter from Guadeloupe to hoist the diver into the helicopter and medivac him to Guadeloupe University Hospital for hyperbaric treatment.

    ABSAR receives a call concerning a 406 EPIRB activation 18 miles west of Antigua. ABSAR RESCUE 1 responds to the location to investigate. While underway a French Rescue helicopter and the cruise ship NORWEGIAN GEM are sent to a second location. The vessel was located at the second location safe and sound.

    ABSAR receives a call concerning a 406 EPIRB activation 5 miles east of Barbuda. ABSAR RESCUE 1 responds to the location and tows a 11m fishing vessel to safe harbour. A total of 10 hours and 103 NM were covered during this call out.
